December 23, 2023: Appointed as an Associate Editor for the Operations Research journal in the Energy and Environment Area, effective from January 1, 2024. It is the flagship journal for the INFORMS community.
November 28, 2023: Accepted! Our paper "Electrolysis as a flexibility resource on energy islands: The case of the North sea" by Alexandra Lüth, Yannick Werner, Ruud Egging-Bratseth, and JK has been accepted for publication in Energy Policy [ link | PDF | GitHub ].
November 3, 2023: Our [ Paper ] received the "Best Paper Award" of the IEEE SmartGridComm 2023 Conference in Glasgow, UK.
October 9, 2023: Together with Andrea Gloppen Johnsen, we delivered a 5-hour tutorial at the Smart Energy and Stochastic Optimization (SESO 2023) Workshop of École des Ponts ParisTech, France, on "Power-to-X: Portfolio management of hybrid power plants".

June 19-23, 2023: We organized DTU PES Summer School 2023. Thanks to our external speakers: Florian Dorfler, Ram Rajagopal, Antoine Lesage-Landry, Juan Miguel Morales González, Ferdinando Fioretto, Lykke Mulvad Jeppesen, and Gaudenz Koeppel. June 7, 2023: Accepted! Our paper "Online decision making for trading wind energy" by Miguel Angel Muñoz, Pierre Pinson, and JK has been accepted for publication in Computational Management Science [ link | arXiv ].
April 1, 2023: Alice Patig [ LinkedIn ] will stay three years more with the EMA section, this time as a PhD student. She was with the EMA section as a Research Assistant during the last six months. Alice received her MSc degree in Electrical Enginnering from the Univeristy of Edinburgh. During her PhD, Alice will be involved in our ongoing EUDP-funded ViPES2X project with Hybrid Greentech, Siemens Gamesa, Lhyfe, and Imperial College London.

March 29, 2023: I gave a lecture on "portfolio management of hybrid power plants" at NTNU/NHH Winter School 2023 [link] in Geilo, Norway [ slides ].
March 3, 2023: Linde Frölke [LinkedIn] successfully defended her PhD thesis "market design for future district heating systems" [ thesis | slides | video ] . Congrats Linde! Thanks to the examination committee, Sonja Wogrin, Erik Delarue, and Shi You.
March 1, 2023: Farzaneh Pourahmadi [LinkedIn] joined the EMA section as a researcher. She received her PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Iran, in 2019. Before joining DTU, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Copenhagen and Copenhagen Business School. During the next three years, she will be mostly working on her DFF project "Combining learning and optimization for faster green transition".
March 1, 2023: Bob Pepin [LinkedIn] joined the EMA section as a postdoctoral fellow. He received his PhD degree in Mathematics from the University of Luxembourg in 2018. Before joining DTU, he was a senior AI specialist at Alexandra Institute, Denmark. During the next one year, he will be working on "data-driven operation of power systems and digitalization".
January 26, 2023: Appointed by the Dean as the Head of Studies for DTU master program "Sustainable Energy Systems", effective from February 1, 2023. Read about the program here.
January 25, 2023: Accepted! Our paper "A market for trading forecasts: A wagering mechanism" by Aitazaz Ali Raja, Pierre Pinson, JK, and Sergio Grammatico has been accepted for publication in the International Journal of Forecasting, forthcoming [ link | arXiv ].
January 19, 2023: It was a pleasure giving an invited webinar on coordination of power, heat, and gas markets for the IEEE PES Spain. Thanks Prof. Antonio Gomez-Exposito (University of Seville) for the invitation!
January 1, 2023: Arega Getaneh Abate [ Homepage ], the recipient of the EuroTechPostdoc2 Programme fellowship, joined the EMA section as a postdoctoral fellow. He received his PhD degree in Mathematical Methods of Economics, Finance, and Actuarial Sciences, from Brescia University, Italy, in 2021. During the next 2 years, he will be working on "AI-assisted electricity market design for sustainability", in collaboration with Maryam Kamgarpour (EPFL) and me.
January 1, 2023: Funded! Project ViPES2X (Fully AI-driven Virtual Power Plant for Energy Storage and Power-to-X) granted funding by the Danish Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Programme (EUDP). The total funding is 1,126,000 euro, out of which the EMA section receives 150,000 euro. Partners: DTU Wind, DTU Energy, Hybrid Greentech, Siemens Gamesa, Lhyfe, Green Hydrogen Systems, and Imperial College London.
